iStockphoto reaches a global audience with help from Conversis

iStockphoto is the world’s leading royalty-free digital image library, with a download every 1.3 seconds. iStock pioneered the micropayment phenomenon in the digital imagery industry, enabling buyers to license images for as little as a dollar and transformed the market by making imagery affordable to businesses that may not have licensed imagery otherwise.

What do we do for iStock?

We work with iStock to translate and localise its website for foreign markets. In other words, we help iStock make sure their global websites are as successful globally as they are in the US, UK and Canada.

This entails getting the copy right, yes, but also making sure the website functions to its full potential within the unique standards and cultural norms of all target markets. Much of the translation involves a creative interpretation of a theme or idea. Our translators therefore all have creative backgrounds and must be able to work within the confines of an e-commerce site.

iStock is a fast growing company. We work together continuously to stay apace of changes and we have evolved our processes so that they fit seamlessly into the flow of iStock’s business direction.

As iStock has grown, its needs have changed. Our project managers and engineers have worked with iStock to find ways to solve each new challenge as it arises. As a result, we now have a process that is dynamic and flexible and we like to think that we’re now part of the team, rather than just a supplier.

What does iStock like about working with us?

“Conversis take a keen interest in your business and a proactive approach to meeting your needs,” says Michael Smith, language specialist and e-commerce manager at iStock.

“Their commitment to our company goes beyond simple customer satisfaction. They really do strive to make positive impacts on our business. Our company is constantly growing, and with it, come new demands, new dynamics, and new projects. Conversis’ staff can unwaveringly be consistent in the service they deliver no matter which challenges we ask them to undertake.

“As a company started in a predominantly monolingual area of the world, we simply would not be able to present ourselves in other languages without their help. In the realm of e-commerce, where clients won’t spend if they can’t read your website, translation is necessary. We simply wouldn’t have the global audience to the extent that we do without their contributions to our business. Period.”
